“delivering high quality care…”
“putting your needs first…”
“providing person centred care…”

Philosophy

  • Abbottswood Lodge delivers the principles of person-centered care, where we see a resident as an individual, rather than focusing on their illness or on abilities they may have lost.
  • We concentrate on our resident’s unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.
  • The care staff are trained in delivering cognitive stimulation therapy with music and reminiscence exercises being the main tools used.
  • A therapist is employed to visit the home to deliver a program of massage and reflexology.
  • We adopt positive (non-restrictive) interventions as the preferred method of providing support to our residents experiencing behavioural disturbances.
  •  Staff are trained to strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and sympathetic atmosphere.
  • The design and the environmental layout of Abbottswood Lodge provides good signage with orientating and “cueing” features such as well-lit areas, clearly marked entrances to day rooms, familiar features, an inviting and homely style.
  • The home is equipped with a sensory room and a sensory garden. Both of which allow residents to :
    1. Relax
    2. Improve memory association and recall
    3. Promote communication and interaction
    4. Lower anxiety and thereby reduce reliance on medication.
  • Residents have access to a suite of computers which they can use to send and receive e-mails and photos, communicate using instant messaging, webcam and Skype.
  • Residents have access to onsite gym.
